Craft Rank: Master
Speciality: Nursery/Seedlings
Physical Description of Persona:
Tall, tanned and broad shouldered from Turns digging in the ground, its easy for Iyoen to be mistaken for a dragonrider, especially at the Weyr, until one sees his knots. His dark brown hair is wavy and kept fairly short so as to keep it out of the way while he works. Iyoen's dark blue eyes are frank, yet serene - seeing the world exactly as it is and yet never letting it get the better of him.
Emotional Description of Persona:
Iyoen exudes confidence in all he does. It's easy to mistake him as arrogant at times, but it is not that he has a high opinion of himself, just a clear opinion. He knows his strengths, and he has unshakeable faith in his knowledge and abilities. However, the Master Farmer is just as likely to admit his weaknesses. Iyoen knows he's not perfect, but he is equally sure no one else is either. It is that acceptance of everyone and everything that gives him a reputation of being unflappable. Some things just go wrong, sometimes the unexpected happens, sometimes life isn't fair, but that's just how it is. He sees no reason to waste time brooding about what cannot be changed.
Even though he is always a Master Farmer, he is interested in a great many things. He believes that just because he had earned his Masters knots in his field, it doesn't mean there is nothing left for him to learn. During his spare time he can often be found debating and sharing ideas with his fellow farmers and craftsmen in related fields over a pint of ale. However, it is not unusual for him to be seen in the company of dragonriders and other crafters as well. He is serious and dedicated to his craft and his work, but he also knows how to relax and enjoy himself.
History of Persona:
Up River Hold was one the last Holds to get the Plague, so the devastation was relatively minor compared to many of its neighbors. Even so, at the time of Iyoen's birth, the arrival of any healthy child was considered lucky, especially for Journeyman Farmer Heiren and his wife Iliya. They had lost their eldest daughter in the Plague and had been trying desperately for Turns to have another child to ease the loss. Iyoen's birth was a joyful occasion for them, and he grew up being surrounded by love from his parents, older sister, and the larger family of the Hold.
His father was pleased when his son seemed to take an interest in following in his footsteps after graduating Harper Classes. Soon after, however, young Iyoen was found on Search and brought to the Weyr to Stand, though it pained his parents to have their child move so far away. Iyoen promised to write them faithfully - a promise he has always kept.
While waiting for Impress his dragon, Iyoen continued learning his craft. During his apprenticeship he learned how the Weyr had been forced to find their own food since Thread had stopped falling. So much their time and resources was spent in the production of food to feed all the dragonriders and their lifemates along with the residents who supported them that sometimes it was hard to find the quality herbs they needed for their infirmary, and so Healers were forced to search for herbs in the wild when none else were available. Iyoen considered it a great injustice. He had already walked the tables to Journeyman when it became clear that it was just not his destiny to be a dragonrider.
Though many candidates in his same situation would have been broken hearted after waiting eight Turns for a lifemate that just never came, Iyoen accepted it with his characteristic calm. Why think about what have been when it just would never be? This brought about the question, though - What was he going to do with himself now?
After living in the Weyr for eight Turns, it had become his home. He didn't want to leave it, and yet he didn't want to stay unless there was something he could contribute to the Weyr. It was then that he remember what he had learned as an apprentice. From that moment on, he decided to make it his goal to help the Weyr their own medicinal herbs that were not only readily available for their use, but also of a superior quality. He had spent his career in that pursuit, earning his Masters knots along the way.

Pets
Sprout, Canine: aged 20, born m3 d13
Though once lively and energetic, Sprout is in his lazy latter turns. She is quite content to lie under the table in a nice, warm greenhouse. There it is easy for many to miss the presence of the sleeping golden canine. Her muzzle is grizzled, showing the signs of her age. Even still, she is a favorite among young children because she happily sits and lets them pet, pat and scratch her, giving them affectionate licks in return.
Anhini, Bronze Firelizard: aged 29, hatched m11 d27
The flit egg was a gift from his father when Iyoen failed to Impress the last time. He was amused when Anhini poked his head out of his shell. It seemed in the end he would be Impressed to a bronze after all! Anhini has been amusing him ever since. Though he passed through his troublesome Turns, Iyoen still enjoys his acrobatic antics through the greenhouses. As long as nothing gets damaged, after all, what's the harm in it?
