Name: Narrala
Age:
24
Birthday: m1 d24
Rank: Junior Apprentice Harper
Location: Harper Hall, Emerald Falls Hold
Craft: Harper
Craft Rank: Junior Apprentice
Physical Description of Persona:
Narrala has thick, luxurious, honey-blond hair which, when unbound, falls just past her waist in gentle waves. It is widely acknowledged as the most attractive feature she has. She is not an ugly girl, simply plain. Except for her hair, she has no striking features. Her nose is of average size and sits between eyes which are a rather ordinary shade of brown. A pleasant smile, displaying her cheerful nature, occasionally improves matters, but for the most part Narrala's features are rather unremarkable. Even her height is average, though she does tend to be a bit thin.
Quite often, her hair is tied up in some fashion; plaited into a braid or simply tied back with a band and left hanging in a long tail are the most common. It isn't that she doesn't like her hair down, but that her life is much to busy to be worrying about her hair getting in the way. Evenings after work is done, restdays and Gathers always see her hair down, brushed until it shines. It is her best feature and her one vanity.
Emotional Description of Persona:
Narrala is overly aware of the 'average' nature of her appearance, save her hair. It has been remarked upon so often that her hair is her best feature, that she's come to believe that the -only- thing anyone could find attractive about her is her hair. Sometimes she feels, with an irrational sort of conviction, that if something happened to her hair, no one would ever look at her. Their eyes would just pass right by her without stopping and it would be like she'd disappear. This manifests in various nervous habits, especially when trying to take an initiative in a conversation or when speaking or performing something before a crowd. She will often run her fingers through her hair if it is down, or reach up and touch it if it is tied back, as if reassuring herself that it's still there.
Narrala has a difficult time initiating a conversation, or joining a group activity unprompted. She's fine once someone else makes the first move. Once she has been brought into a conversation, or social situation, she is quite friendly and gregarious. She enjoys laughter, fun and good humor and naturally gravitates towards a group, she just has a very hard time making herself take the first step as far as interaction goes.
History of Persona:
Narrala had been born at Thayan Peak weyrhold eleven turns before the Thread began to fall again. Six turns before the earthquake which killed many and caused the weyrhold to move to the location now known as Dolphin Cove Weyr. She'd been six when the earthquake took her greenrider mother. She'd been eleven when the first Threadfall had taken her brownrider father.
She spent a turn as a fosterling before approaching the Weyr's Harper and requesting apprenticeship, partially in the hopes that she wouldn't have to Stand if she were an apprentice. The death of her father hurt her a great deal, and though she'd dreamed of Impressing when she was younger and becoming a dragonrider like her parents, the tragedy banished that dream forever.
Of course, that wasn't to be as everyone just assumed she'd want to Impress anyway because her parents had been riders and she'd been so eager as a child. Unable to think of a way to get out of it, she played along, acting as pleased with the situation as everyone thought she should be. Each Hatching Narrala has Stood for since she turned thirteen has been met with a more fear than the last.
Her apprentice studies progressed smoothly though. Narrala has a pleasant voice once her strange shyness is past and she sings especially well in a group which made her particularly useful in chorus performances. Her instrumental abilities are a bit less impressive, though she plays the harp rather well. Her real talent though is in art. Drawing and painting are where she shines.
When the Harper Hall moved into the Weyr, she decided to ask for a transfer. She wished to take advantage of the more complete training made available and to, even if only mentally, distance herself a bit more from Impression. She did worry a bit that it might cause problems with her studies, since being part of the Hall meant the structure of how she was learning and the people doing the teaching was going to change so drasticly. In truth, that turned out to be less of a problem than she'd thought. She made the adjustment eailiy enough with a little hard work. It was the greater influx of people that caused the difficulty for her. Especially since many of the harpers who arrived hadn't quite realized how moving to a Weyr would impact them. Particularly the more traditional of the males.
However, Narrala is hopeful that she will soon be advanced to senior apprentice status and then on to become a journeyman and all without the catastrophe of Impression interfering.
