Persona Profile: Benar

Writer: Vanessa T Sommerfeld

Name: Benar
Age: 47
Birthday: m3 d21
Rank: Senior Journeyman Harper
Location: Harper Hall, Emerald Falls Hold
Craft: Harper
Craft Rank: Senior Journeyman
Speciality: Art

Physical Description of Persona:
Benar's almond-shaped golden-brown eyes are almost the identical shade as his hair, which he wears long so that he can braid it and be done with it. His skin tans easily and he spends a lot of time outdoors hiking and drawing. He stands 5'11'' and has a medium, unremarkable build. When he was a junior apprentice, he suffered a fall while hiking, which left a finger-length scar under his left cheekbone.

Emotional Description of Persona:
Benar's quiet demeanor is less about shyness than observation. Once he gets to know someone and decides they are worthwhile, he is talkative-especially about art and history. He has an even temper and is slow to anger, but once betrayed, he can cut a person out of his life completely. He has had few close friends, but is loyal and generous to those he feels worthy of his time and energy. His preference for solitude has meant that he has never been in a relationship, although he did have a couple of childhood crushes.

History of Persona:
Benar is the only child born to his mother and his Healer father. He was raised in a small hold with conservative values. He had a typical childhood, with two best friends, Muriana and Kelsen. His mother was an excellent cook, and hoped that he might enter the Baker craft. His father, of course, hoped he would follow in his craft, but the only interest Benar ever showed in either profession was when he was inspired to draw pictures of their craft tools. His Harper teachers encouraged his talent for illustration and he decided to take an apprenticeship in their hall. While studying for his junior journeyman's knots, Benar learned he had a passable singing voice and an aptitude for gitar. In fact, Benar had at least moderate talent in each of the Harper specialties.

He disappointed his parents again, however, when he informed them that he had no intentions of asking Muriana to marry him. Although the two young people agreed that it would probably been a good union, they also agreed that they had never had romantic feelings for each other. Muriana eventually married Kelsen, a Smith, and had 3 children. Their marriage had surprised Benar because it was his impression that although Kelsen was hopelessly smitten with Muriana, she had no more feelings for Kelsen than she did for Benar. He was not upset or jealous of the marriage, he simply worried for both his friends' happiness. Just after the wedding, Benar decided to make a permanent move to Harper Hall to earn his Senior Journeyman knots. Now earned, he is considered and expert illustrator. His passion, though, is drawing wildlife. He spends every free candlemark hiking with his charcoals and paper.
