Persona Profile: J'gen

Writer: Kaysea

Name: J'gen
Age: 54
Birthday: m2 d10
Rank: Wingrider, Adoptable Riders Wing
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Craft: Dragonhealer
Craft Rank: Master

Physical Description of Persona:
J'gen is a tall solidly built man standing 6'3" and weighing 245lb. He is a wall of solid muscle. He has jet black hair with shots of grey through the temples. He has one ice blue right eye, the left eaten away by thread score. He had been a handsome man but now the left side of his face is puckered and scarred.

Emotional Description of Persona:
Turns ago J'gen could have been termed a playboy, sleeping with one woman after another as the mood struck him. The good looking bronze rider had his pick of the women of the Weyr and he made good use of them. But since the Threadscore, he has become a more subdued personality. Taciturn to those who don't know him, a loyal and caring man to those who do.

History of Persona:
J'gen has always been an outgoing man; originally he had wanted to be a healer, follwoing his parents since both had been healers. His mother, Klea, a journeywoman healer and his father, Jarogen, was the Masterhealer of Far Island Weyr.

As Jagen, he was Searched at fifteen turns and Impressed bronze Suuth. Since he had only completed two turns of his craft before Impression, he realised that once Suuth reached maturity he could return to his studies and adapt from human healing to dragonhealing. Before Thread once again threatened Pern, J'gen had finished his formal training and had practised as a junior, then senior, journeyman dragonhealer.

During his training he had searched through the fragile Weyr records from the previous pass, to see what exactly had been required of Dragonhealers during a Pass to compare their experiences with his own - so when Thread once more rained down on Pern he knew what his lot could and would be.

He served as both Wingsecond and Wingleader at Far Island Weyr, and was considered a trusted friend by all who knew him. He fathered three children over the turns to two separate women. His sons mother died in childbirth; whilst his second weyrmate Impressed two turns after giving birth to their twin girls.

His relationship with his weyrmate ended when she Impressed, and for turns he was content once again, to make his way through the willing arms of the ladies of the Weyr until he lost his heart to a young kitchen worker, Syrita. The pair were inseparable and it wasn't long before they were weyrmated, but the jealousy shown by his previous mate was to wreak havoc in their relationship, until one night Syrita disappeared.

He searched for months to find her, but it was as if she had disappeared from the face of Pern, or as though she had been nothing more than a dream. Shortly after Syrita's disappearance, his ex-weyrmate died during Threadfall. One tragedy after another had befallen him, but more was in store as he himself, his mind distracted by the current drama's in his life, was Scored badly during a fall.

J'gen lost his left eye, and half his face, to Threadscore at thirty eight turns; it took him more than two turns to recover and adapt to being a non-fighting rider. Whilst still in recovery he continued study of his chosen craft comparing the way they had dealt with Thread damage during the previous Pass, to the way they had adapted during the present Pass. His move to Vista Point Weyr after recovery, was a much needed change for him. Suuth and he made a skilled team during Falls, treating the injured dragons with the aid of other retired riders and healers. He earned his Masters knots while at Vista Point and began a surprisngly pleasant chapter in his life when he once again found Syrita.

Surprise was his when he discovered his lost love again, and happier still was the news she had born him a child. He jumped at the second chance they had been given. Whilst he had been recovering from Thread score, Syrita had been giving birth to their daughter, Gyta. Within months of their reunion, Syrita broke the news she was to present him with another child, this was cause for further celebration.

But it wasn't a second eagerly anticipated pregnancy - but a malignant, fast growing tumor in her belly. Their lives were shattered by the news, but worse was to come when an overdose of medication saw Syrita wandered off in a stupor and fall to her death from the Point that Vista Point was named for. Gyta witnessed her mothers death and hasn't spoken since.

It was thought it best for the pair to start over again, just the two of them far away from the constant reminder of Syrita's tragedy. When the call went out for an experienced Dragonhealer for Dragonsfall Weyr, J'gen jumped at the chance to start afresh, for both him and Gyta.

It is with renewed hope for a happier life that fills J'gen with optimism. Hope that Gyta will once again become the laughing, friendly child she was when he first met her and hope that they will both find peace of mind in their new home.
