Dantial rubbed at the side of his face as he looked up from his last report, surprised to see K'nure sitting in the chair across from him. "How long have you been sitting there?" he asked guiltily, wondering how much of the bluerider's time he'd wasted. K'nure had been a great help with some of the less serious muscle injury cases, and all of the healers owed him a good dose of gratitude.
"Long enough." The bluerider crossed his long legs and stretched out comfortably in the chair. "Healer, heal thyself."
Chuckling tiredly, Dantial shook his head and slumped back into his chair.
"I'm at the end of a very long list of people who need healing, unfortunately."
"I thought that dragonmen were the ones who were supposed to be self-sacrificing," K'nure said. "I'm not sacrificing much more than a few candlemark's sleep," Dantial replied. "And accepting a headache or two. Compared to fighting Thread, it's not terribly heroic."
"Yes, but at least we face Thread on enough sleep and a good hearty breakfast, preferably with a redfruit to keep the Healer away."
Dantial gave the bluerider a tired smile. "Was that a hint that I'm supposed to be eating and sleeping sometime this evening?"
The bluerider opened his eyes wide. "No. But if you'd like to take it as a hint, it _is_ very good advice."
"That it is." With another sigh, Dantial leaned forward again, shuffling through the mess on his desk. "For now, I'll take any reports or notes you need to give me on the patients you've seen. There's no reason both of us should be stuck here longer than necessary."
K'nure handed him a slim file, but didn't rise from his seat. Instead he crossed his arms behind his head and stared up at the ceiling. "So, I have this friend... and I need a little advice."
Dantial set the file down and tilted his head to the side. "All right. What sort of advice?"
"Medical advice."
"I figured that much," Dantial replied dryly. "What's the problem?"
K'nure arched an eyebrow and continued talking to the ceiling. "Well, this friend of mine neglects his own health and won't listen to a healer's advice on the matter. What would _you_ do with him?" Dantial crossed his arms on his desk and let his head fall forward. "Fine, fine. Though if you really want to be helpful, why don't you schedule me in as your next patient? If I can't get rid of my tension headaches, I won't be sleeping in any case." Of course, he still had to check on O'dan and help his brother with his evening exercises before he could even think about sleeping. And that was if nothing else went wrong.
"Can do!" K'nure began to grin. "I knew if I nagged you enough, you'd see reason! I've got the rest of the evening free, so whenever you want me, send me a note and I'll come running."
"You are too kind," Dantial replied, his voice muffled. He lifted his head and gave K'nure a ghost of a smile. "You've heard that healers are the worst patients, haven't you?"
"Nobody had to tell me. I learnt by experience." K'nure rose to his feet, stretched, and put a hand on the door knob. "Seriously, Dantial. Send me a message when you're ready, and I'll see what I can do about that head of yours."
"I'll let you know," he promised. And as another stab of pain made him drop his head back to his arms, he realized that he actually meant it.
