Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 10, day 11 of Turn 3
Renner looked out over the dock. The sun was just rising. He watched as the clouds turned grey, then purple, pink and salmon. Finally a brilliant fiery orange. It was the kind sunrise that would make anyone feel glad to be alive. **Anyone but me...** Renner thought as he rubbed at the bandages covering his arms. This was a day he had been dreading for the last sevenday.
"Not quite red." Mosler said walking up to the journeyman and thinking about the common 'red sky at morning' rhyme. "The skies are favorable," Renner nodded. "Should be good seas today."
Not that it will help him at all riding on a dragon. And the mindhealer hall he was going to was not on the ocean.
"Hmph" he snorted back a laugh, "Too bad. Master Metlick has the senior apprentices going out on their solo sail runs today. A little rough seas would have done their egos some good." "But calm seas are safer," the journeymen said softly. "Especially for a first run."
So much for lightening the mood... "So... are you all packed up? Your ride will be here any time now." Renner nodded slowly. "Not much I need to take. I boxed up the rest of my things. Zanie promised to keep them for me until... Well for now."
"Good," Mosler said as he looked out over the water, "I've told the Headwoman to keep the furniture from your room in stores for when you get back, but you might have a different room. We have quite a few journeymen and women coming in with their rotations ending." "I understand."
"Do you?" the Hallmaster asked, looking at the man. He was really starting to get tired of tip-toeing around the journeyman. "I, we, everyone here at the Hall wants you to get the help you need. We want you to get better and come back to us; but we aren't going to be waiting for you. I've already got a replacement to take over your classes and yes, your room will probably be reallocated."
"Thank you for spelling out my life for me, Master Mosler," Renner said icily as he peered out over the waves. "Don't worry, I have vacated my room and all my classnotes are on my desk. I know well enough that your Hall and your people will do quite fine without me around anymore."
"_Yes_ they will." Mosler thought himself a fairly even tempered man, but Renner seemed to be _trying_ to infuriate him. "Do you even _realize_ what you've done to this Hall this last sevenday, or does your ego not allow you to see anything outside your own misery?"
"I'm sorry I couldn't finish the job for you, Master. I'll be out of your Hall soon enough." It was obvious Renner was not wanted there any more. He could hardly blame the man. He saw the look in Des' eyes. It was bad enough he felt the shame of trying to die, but now he had to live with the shame of wanting to live.
Mosler sighed, getting angry with him wasn't going to do any good for either of them. "Look, I'm sorry for snapping. I've just got alot on my plate right now, and you're an easy target to take it out on." "Ah, well, that takes the whole last seven-day back then, doesn't it." Even words said in anger couldn't be taken back once they had left a person's lips. The eruption of a blue dragon coming from between interrupted Mosler's reply. Both watched the dragon circle down and land in front of the Hall. "Looks like your ride is here."
**It better not be that D'cal...** Renner thought. But then he realized it didn't much matter if it were him or someone else. The result would be the same. He lifted his bag to his shoulder. "Well, then, I guess its time I stopped disrupting your Hall."
Mosler didn't bother with a retort as he walked the journeyman to the awaiting dragon; at that very moment, he didn't feel Renner was even worth it.
