~~~~~~~~ Marathi's dream~~~~~~~
"You stupid, ugly, worthless woman!" Artias furious again. Marathi tried to put something between them. She could hear the babe crying but knew better than to turn her back on her husband.
"Father! Stop it! Leaver her alone, she didn't do anything." Inside Marathi groaned, Martias was a good boy, but when he interfered things only got worse.
~~~~~~~~~
A hand shaking her shoulder made the woman blot up in bed. "Marathi, wake up." the other woman looked tired. "You had another nightmare. I really think you should at least talk too Master Pacham."
Marathi sighed. "I don't need to see a healer." She knew the other woman meant well. "I'm fine really. It's like like I have the nightmares very often."
"It's not the nightmares that worry me, it's everything. When you came here you told me that the healer wanted to see you again, I know you didn't go and you promised M'tias you would."
The mention of her son made her wince. She had promised him. Well he was busy working with the weyrlings and picking up his harper studies. Fortunately he had not had time to check in on her as much.
"Today Marathi." The other woman insisted. "Promise me or I'll go find M'tias."
"All right I'll go after breakfast." she sighed. Anything to keep M''tais from worrying.
~~~~Later in the morning~~~~~~
The headwoman had arranged for her to have sometime to see the healer. Marathi knew the woman was aware of why simply because she didn't ask. Dreading the visit and speaking to a strange _man_ Marathi did as she'd promised her roommate she would.
"Master Pacham?"
"Yes?" he asked, looking up from the folder in her hands as he approached.
"I've, I've been meaning to speak to a healer, but I'm not sure who I should talk too."
"Well, it just so happens _I_ am a healer," Pacham smiled. "Usually, though, we ask the journeyman in the front. But that's all right. How can I help you?"
Mariathi ducked her head, "I'm sorry sir, but my roommate suggested you, I can go..."
"No no. If I have been recommended then I must try to live up to expectations," he said with a teasing wiggle of his eyebrows. "What can I do for you today?"
"Well, I, I have been having nightmares, for some time."
"I see. Anything specific?" he asked as he ushered her towards an examining room.
"My husband. Well former husband."
"Yes?" he asked encouragingly as he me motioned that she should take a seat.
"I came here when my son M'tias impressed, and I've been having these nightmares sense."
Pacham pulled out a fresh hide and started scribbling notes. "Can you tell me what happens in the nightmares?"
Marathi toyed with her hair, "They are more memories than dreams, I can't pinpoint an exact time. Almost everyone one could have been at many points. Things never really changed with him"
"But you say these are nightmares? Were you... mistreated by him?"
Marthai jerk back and started to deny it, as she'd done for so many turns. Sighing she forced herself to speak. "Yes."
"And so every time you try to sleep you have nightmares of your husband abusing you?" he asked gently. It was unfortunate truth that there were some places in the south where that kind of thing was tolerated, or at least conveniently over looked. He had met more women than he would have liked who came from unhealthy marriages.
"There more like memories." she repeated softly. "But my son is always there too."
"Your son?"
"His name is M'tias, he's a brownrider."
"So in your dreams you feel like you are reliving memories of your husband abusing you, and your son M'tias is there. And this is disturbing your sleep," Pacham reiterated as he scribbled down notes.
"I take it this is leading to a lack of sleep, and that's why you're coming to see me today."
" more like I;m bothering my roommate, she wakes me up. She threatened to tell M'tais this moring."
"Tell M'tais? What would she tell M'tais?"
"That I'm still having the nightmares. I promised him I'd see a healer when I came here. He has so much to worry about, I don't want him worring about me."
"Well, I'm not so sure its my kind of healing you need," Pacham said gently. "Have you talked to a mindhealer at all?"
"I didn't know who to talk too."
"Well, I can certainly get you into contact with one of our mindhealers. They are very good," he offered.
"If you think it will help?"
"I think he can do more than I can," Pacham nodded.
"thank you sir." she said softly, the role she'd played so long coming though again.
The Weyrhealer smiled reassuringly. "I will give you a list of names."
Marathi nodded silently. Maybe now her roommate would leave her alone.
