Aleriand

Aleriand

“Who’s my good girl…who’s my good girl?!” Sh’del leaned over his green flit and tickled her tummy as she wiggled around in joy over all the attention.

}:She is anything_but_a good girl:{

Sh’del laughed and glanced out to where his big brown was sunning himself. *You sound hot and tired.*

}:No, I’m just…a little bored:{

Sh’del picked Trouble up and popped her on his shoulder so he could walk out and look at Loranth. Giving the dark brown a pat on the cheek, he asked, “What’s up? You want to go find a new place to go swimming, or chase a green or something?”

Loranth thought for a moment. }:You know those books…?:{

“Those books?”

}:_Those_books:{

“Okay_those_books.”

}:I want a new story:{

“From_those_books?”

}:Yes, they make you happy and that makes me happy. Let’s go get one:{

Sh’del suppressed a laugh. Trust Loranth to have an odd streak. He could just re-read one of them and Loranth wouldn’t remember.

}:I would too. Now, let’s go.:{ Loranth gave him a grave look before nudging him to go get the flight straps.

“Okay okay, we’re going!”

"""

Loranth popped out of /between/ to sail over the Printer Hall. He circled and landed on the clearing. Sh’del privately admitted that the brown looked excited over the prospect of having a new story being read to him.

He ducked into the building, looking for a familiar face.

Luckily for the rest of the Printer Hall Journeymen, there was indeed at least one familiar face. Aleriand looked up as the little bell over the door jingled. "Look what the feline dragged in." He said, teasing, though his tone had an undercurrent of stressed violence. "Keep that firelizard out of here. We're getting the store ready for the Turn's End Grand Opening and I am halfway to losing my mind."

“Good point.” Sh’del quickly spoke to Loranth who called the flit to him. Nothing was going to spoil’s Loranth’s desire to hear a new story. Sh’del watched the green fire lizard dart back out the door and grinned at Aleriand. “Lucky for you that my Loranth is desperate to have more Weyr books.” He snorted and shook his head. Looking around the new place, he asked, “So how’s it going? You still have your sanity?”

"For now." Aleriand said. "I can't say the same for the Journeymen. I've been _impossible_. But look at this place! It's a far cry from the mess of a workshop I used to live in back at the Weyr, isn't it?" He swept an arm broadly out towards the rest of the bookstore, and to the Printer Hall far beyond. "But you're here looking for more tall tales for Loranth, are you? What suits his fancy these days?"

Sh’del looked around the place with a rather sheepish smile. No one was around but the two of them. “It’s looks amazing, to be frank. And Loranth wants some more of those…eh…Weyr fiction books. The more purple the prose the better as far as he’s concerned, if you catch my meaning. There’s no accounting for taste in dragons.”

}:I know, I live with you and Trouble:{

"Oh sure, so anything Saldin edits." Aleriand said. "At least he has one fan. How much romance do you want in it? Do you want to give Loranth any ideas about who or how he's chasing?"

“Oh, the more salacious the better. I mean, why chase greens when you can read about it instead?” Sh’del gave the man a helpless shrug. “Can’t remember the last time he showed any interest in that. I swear Trouble is the closest I’ll ever see to a weyrmate. I even woke up the other day and she had tucked herself in and had her head on the spare pillow like a little person.”

"Me too, Loranth." Aleriand said with a chuckle, then shot Sh'del a wicked look that he reserved only for good friends from the Weyr, "Did you know that you could find yourself a weyrmate outside the flightroom? Give yourself some time to be charming before you lose the buttons off their shirt."

At that Sh’del laughed. “I like how you assume I’m getting any from the flightrooms! No..no winning flights, no not winning Flights. All I am these days is upset weyrlings, anxious candidates and two blue riders named ‘lor. And one airheaded flit and one odd brown who likes books.” He mock shook his head, though he was grinning. “Trust me, life in the Weyr isn’t really anything like your Saldin edits.”

"Saldin and I remember our time at the Weyr very differently." Aleriand said in equally mock seriousness. "Though thankfully he's sticking to editing and not writing any sordid tales of his own. The latest one he worked on is called 'Deserving Loyalty'. You might like that. It could prompt Loranth into chasing some greens. It has some...creative uses of riding leathers."

}:That’s the one!:{

**It would.** To Aleriand, he said, “Loranth says that’s the book he wants. Tell you what, if I ever_do_lure someone back to my weyr and they see these books I’m going to die of shame. I’ll have to tell everyone that you set me up.” His tone was teasing and he gave his old friend a mock punch on the shoulder before wrapping an arm around his shoulders. “You hear much from J’ine these days?”

Aleriand chuckled a little. "You won't be the first one to admonish me about the filth my Printers publish. Any publicity is good publicity, especially when one is trying to get their Crafthall off the ground." The fact that he was skirting the line between 'scandalous' and 'burn the Hall down' was left unsaid. The thought of J'ine made the brief frown vanish, and he chuckled. "Being over at Barrier Lake hasn't stopped him from appearing here at a whim, even if the five candlemarks difference has slowed it down a little."

“Hopefully once this place is fully set up and running with lots of masters about, then you’ll have more time on both your hands.” Sh’del squeezed his friend’s shoulders. There was always a ‘when you have more time’ for all of them. Yet another reason he didn’t even bother seeking out a weyrmate, though a friendly face to wake up to every morning would be nice. Maybe one day.

"Hah! We'll see about that. Just need to promote some Masters, huh? Sounds easy enough." Aleriand said. "If you find any, let me know. I could use a boost of staff that doesn't require an apprenticeship. Now, is there anything else you need? I need to get back to it, and you need to get that firelizard out of here."

“Oh!” Sh’del spotted his obnoxious flit on a stack of books, with a gleam in her eye. “Yes, let’s wrap that book up and get her out of there before she lives up to her name.”
