Aydhara

Not for the first time, Cirina mentally thanked her parents for the gift of a firelizard egg, as she coaxed Digger to her. Giving the little brown a piece of meat, she scratched him under the chin before saying seriously, “Now, I need you to take this to Aydhara at Barrier Lake Weyr.” She concentrated hard on both the location of the other Weyr, and the other Candidate’s face. Digger had always been good at running messages, but she’d rarely sent him to anyone outside of Dolphin Cove Weyr, other than her brother, who he’d known his whole little life. From his confident chirp, however, he didn’t seem worried about his ability to complete the task, knowing the reward would surely be more food and scritches.

She tied the little letter to his leg. It flopped comically in the air and he gave an indignant sound of protest, but while he was very good at getting to where she sent him, he did occasionally forget to take the messages with him. Actually affixing them to him was ideal.

Dear Aydhara

Do you have a free day soon that I could come to visit? My mother said she’d give me a ride, and I'd love to see Barrier Lake Weyr better. I went once for a Harper performance nearby, but I’ve never really seen the Weyr.

And, honestly, I’m so so so bored. There’s nothing to do as a Candidate between clutches but chores and going over all the same information I’ve been hearing since I was old enough to Stand. It’d be fun to spend a day absolutely anywhere else. I’m about ready to throw myself into the ocean.

I’ll have to bring my mom. Aeoluth isn’t ready to ferry people from Weyr to Weyr yet, but she has a friend she can visit, so it should be totally fine.

-Cirina.

PS if you can find a snack to give to Digger, he’ll bring a note back.

"

Aydhara shrieked in joy when Digger appeared, and the creature got all the scritches and meat he wanted, once she ran down to the Lower Caverns and showed him to half a dozen people until someone gave her a bucket of scraps. He returned to Dolphin Cove fat, happy, and carrying a letter back.

Dearest,

Ugh, I know! My next free day is in three days, though I bet I can play hooky if I tell J'nic that my best friend from Dolphin Cove is visiting. It's not an exciting tour, but I bet we can run over to the Hold. Dad says some of the potters there are painting dirty pictures at the bottom of bowls.

I can introduce your Mom to my Mom too, if she likes! Then she'll have more friends to visit and you can come over more often. Dad wants to see the dolphins again and he was _very_ jealous that I got to meet Tib, so I bet I can visit soon too. Do you and Oriene have a free day off soon?

XO, Aydhara

-----------

It was much later in the afternoon when a now rather rotund looking firelizard appeared in front of Aydhara. This time the note was just a short scribble at the bottom of the last one.

"

Oh, I think we can have a free day in 3 days. I’ll let you know tomorrow.

Don’t give Digger anything else to eat. He keeps falling asleep now. hahaha

There was a heart drawn at the bottom.
