Aydhara

It was her first time attending another Weyr’s function without being in the presence of her parents. Going to Dolphin Cove for their Hatching seemed like a grown up thing to do. Taking Aydhara as her date seemed even _more_ grown up.

Sebiath was curious to visit another Weyr and have the opportunity to talk to some other dragons. She was sure she would find him nestled amongst some greens before the night was over.

Casmari had even spent a few precious marks to have a new dress made for the event. Its tall collar, which featured a peek-a-boo neckline, made her feel more elegant than her usual tunic and breeches. The split in the stone-blue dress, dyed to match Sebiath, reached clear to her belted waistline, revealing the slightly darker shade of blue leggings beneath. She still had to ride a dragon, after all.

Her hair was in its usual loose braid over her shoulder. Flying with her hair loose always left her with a windswept look that was impossible to tame later, courtesy of the little bit of wave she had inherited from her mother’s unruly mane.

“Let’s go pick up Aydhara,” she said as she strode out to where Sebiath waited on their ledge.

}:Do you think she would like to do some more barrel-rolls?:{ The blue inquired as he waited for his rider to settle on his neckridge.

**You know she loves anything you do, but no acrobatics tonight. I would like to show up at Dolphin Cove looking somewhat presentable.**

}:If you insist,:{ Sebiath said with what sounded like a little bit of a sigh.

They arrived in the Weyrbowl outside the Candidate Barracks as planned, if not a few minutes late.

Aydhara's outfit was a result of a skirmish between herself and her mother's closet. Aydhan, at least, enjoyed the teenage panic at needing a perfect ensemble that allowed for modest dragonriding and still impressed her new ….girlfriend? (Aydhan needed to confer with Rasme on this) and so she didn't outshine Cirina at her own hatching.

Except wait a minute, Aydhan had been looking for those boots for _months_! And those earrings! She'd been blaming that gold nuisance of a firelizard-

Suffice to say Aydhara won the battle but lost the war, appearing back at the candidate barracks with a dress far too revealing for Barrier Lake's chilly spring. A light Barrier Lake purple, with a low neckline and a high slit in the skirt, enough to reveal the shorts underneath to prevent any accidental flashing if Sebiath decided to show off. A light shawl covered her bare arms for now, to be tucked away before they took off and replaced with a coat to protect against Dolphin Cove's forecasted rain.

"Ooh, Casmari! You look gorgeous." Aydhara exclaimed, pulling her into a quick hug and a quick kiss on the cheek. Then, after a moment, "And you look handsome too, Sebiath."

Sebiath warbled approvingly at the comment. He liked Aydhara.

“You look great, too,” Casmari said as she and Aydhara settled themselves on Sebiath’s neckridge. “Which one of your friends did you say was Standing at this Hatching?” She double-checked her and Aydhara’s straps while Sebiath prepared for takeoff.

"Cirina. Oriene went back to the Dolphin Hall. Hopefully she got some time to come up and cheer her on, too. It's not far." Aydhara used the opportunity to put her arms around Casmari's waist. "I'm getting a little worried about her. I think all her other friends have Impressed or moved on."

The air above Dolphin Cove was littered with other dragons popping in from all across the Southern Continent. The temperature was certainly a lot nicer than at Barrier Lake. Still, Casmari thought the beach Weyr lacked some of the rustic charm that her lakeside home boasted.

Sebiath greeted the watchdragon on duty, and then patiently waited in the air for a spot in the Weyrbowl to clear. The blue coasted in smoothly and landed with a little hop and flare of his wings.

**Showing off?** Casmari chuckled to herself as she unbuckled the riding straps.

}:You never know which green might be watching,:{ Sebiath said with the equivalent of a mental wink.

Shrugging out of her coat, Casmari tucked it underneath Sebiath’s straps for safe-keeping.

“Looks like we made it in time,” she said to Aydhara as the hum of dragons filled the air.

Aydhara, not hearing that Sebiath was trying to show off, praised his little bounce and flutter before he took off again. What a good boy. She took Casmari's arm, nearly bursting with excitement. Hatchings were much less stressful when she got to sit in the Stands. "Come on, let's try to get some good seats. Maybe Cirina will see us waving!"

The stands inside Dolphin Cove’s Hatching Cavern were brimming with people, but the pair of girls managed to squirm into some pretty decent seats. From their view, they would be able to see the Candidates' faces as they squared off with the clutch of eggs.

“Which one is Cirina?” Casmari asked, speaking closely to Aydhara’s ear to be heard over the noise as the white-robed Candidates began to file onto the sands.

Aydhara had to squint to try and pick out Cirina in the crowd of candidates. "Oh, there! There she is!" She pointed excitedly down at the redhead amongst the sea of candidates, then tried waving. "I don't think she's looking up. Cirina!" She tried to call over the din of dragons and other people, her voice lost in the sound.

She lowered her hand after a moment, unsure if Cirina ever did see her. "Oh well. We'll congratulate her afterwards! Look! There goes the first one!"
