Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 2, day 4 of Turn 4
Swift had cleared the table the Hallmaster had used, and was just coming back out of the kitchen with a damp cloth to wipe the area down when he caught sight of another visitor.
"Can I get you anything, journeywoman?"
Trellyn flashed him a smile hopped up onto one of the tables, letting her feet rest of the bench below. "I really need a sweet roll, you wouldn't happen to have any left would you?"
"I'll see what I can find," he said with a smile. This one didn't look as if she had anything weighing on her mind and keeping her awake.
"What about juice or klah?"
"Hmmmm" she hummed out, considering her options, "How about some spiced wine? Something to relax me so I can get some sleep."
He nodded. "I won't be a moment."
When he returned, she was laying on the empty table looking up at the mural some artisan had drawn on the ceiling. She figured it must be very old, back when the Hall was a Sea Hold. "Do you ever wish your life could have been different?"
Swift placed the plate that contained more than the requested sweet roll and the heavy glass of the spiced wine at one end of the table and thought about her question. "I used to, a long time ago. Not now."
"Why not?" Trellyn asked, turning and propping herself up on her side to look at the man.
"Time, I suppose. I used to wish my wife hadn't died." He shrugged, smiling slightly at the old memories of Belevi. "But after a while there was too much of my life that came after, that was shaped by her death. I wouldn't wish those Turns undone. Not that I am happy that she died - just ... accepting."
Trellyn nodded, she thought she understood. Time was supposed to heal all wounds, that was what she was hoping for by going to Topaz to forget about Ednan. If she could just get away from him for a Turn or two, she could come back and she wouldn't have those feelings for him anymore and things could go back to normal. "Sometimes I wish I was just a holder's wife, that I had never wanted to become a dolphineer.
Life would be so simple and easy."
"I don't think life it works like that. If you were a holder's wife you would have other things that complicated your life and made it difficult."
"Hmmm, maybe." She said as her mind drifted to what life would be like in a hold. She could see herself being a good obedient wife...
probably knitting or something hum drum like that. She could pick wild herbs... yes that sounded better. While picking herbs she runs across a herder, Ednan, and he takes her into his arms and they make love behind a tree... **Oh dear** Trellyn shook her head slightly, so much for simple! "Yes, I think you're right. It was a thought though."
"As long as you take a good look at things before you change them from thoughts to reality. Do you think you could adjust _now_ to being a holder's wife? To giving up your craft?"
Trellyn shook her head again, this time in agreement. "No, I'd miss the dolphins too much. And I'm too independent for a holder now, I don't think a prim and proper holder would know what to do with me!"
"There. So, do you really wish your life had been different? You wouldn't be _you_ if it had."
"I suppose," she stood up and stuffed the rest of the sweet roll in her mouth. "But if I could learn to make as good of sweet rolls as you, maybe I'll change my craft!"
Swift grinned. "Come to the kitchens one evening. We make the dough at night and put it in the chiller. You're welcome to learn - just in case you ever decide to leave us for holder life."
