Someplace More Productive

Writers: Cali, Eimi
Date Posted: 19th February 2007

Characters: Renner, Mosler
Description: Renner faces the Hallmaster
Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 2, day 1 of Turn 4

"Renner," Mosler said with a nod as he approached the journeyman. "Good to see you back. I'm sorry I wasn't able to greet you when you arrived, things have been a little crazy around here lately."

"That's fine, sir. I figured I would just get myself settled." And seeing the Hallmaster wasn't going to be the happiest reunion. They hadn't exactly parted on the friendliest of terms. Far from it, in fact.

Mosler nodded to that. He had read the reports from the mindhealer and was willing to overlook the journeyman's behavior from before. "And how is that going for you? Are you in need of anything?" "No, I don't think so. I have a room already." Obviously not his _old_ room. It had been, as Mosler had warned him it would be, already occupied by a new journeyman. "A friend had kept most of my personal effects, so we just moved them over."

"Glad that's settled then," He replied, ready to move on. He needed to get Renner placed somewhere but where? "Do you feel like getting back to work or do you need a few more days to adjust?" "Well, I think I have to take it slowly." His healers had warned him about over-doing it too quickly. "It would be nice to just... get back in the water again. I wasn't allowed to swim at the... where I was."

The Hallmaster pursed his lips in disapproval. What was that stupid place thinking? It was down right cruel not to allow a _dolphineer_ to swim and converse with the dolphins. "Our Dockmaster has been bugging me for a journeyman to take the night watch and to keep an eye on the dock and the dolphin bell. He says the apprentices keep falling asleep. Is that something that might interest you? It's lonely work, but not very stressful." Lonely was something Renner had learned to deal with rather well. "I think I could handle that."

"Good, good." he replied as he made a note of it. "I'll keep you there for a month or so, and then we can talk about moving you someplace more productive."
**Some place more productive... As in, I am of no use to you now...** Renner berated himself for being so negative. Perhaps he was just looking for something bad in the conversation. His healers had pointed out he was guilty of that sometimes. Taking a deep breath to try to clear his thoughts he nodded. "I'd like that."

Mosler nodded, glad he had been able to place the man someplace fairly quickly. The only thing worse than having too few dolphineers was having worthless ones. "I'll leave the schedule between you and the Dockmaster to work out. Anything else I can do for you today?"

"No, sir." Renner took a deep breath. He loathed meaningless platitudes, but he had to at least be polite. After all, his future at the Hall was now in Mosler's hands. "Thank you, sir, for allowing me to come back."
