Description: Ednan boards the ship that will take him to the Healer Hall.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 5, day 9 of Turn 5

Ednan walked up the gangplank to the deck of Sun Runner. He had a carisack on his shoulder, another bag at his hand and Brun had wrapped his tail around his neck, crooning into his ear. He was feeling, oddly enough, cheery and buoyant, despite the fact that he had just said his goodbyes to his sister and friends (including dolphin friends.)

"Hoy." A sailor called as Ednan boarded the vessel. He held a board and parchment in his hand along with a pen. He looked rather at odds the job, seemingly more suited to climbing the mast or working the rudder than writing down passages. His was of average height, but he was well built, muscles prominent. He had a rugged face with a day or two beard and a square jaw. He wasn't particularly handsome, but he wasn't unpleasant to look at either. "Name, sir?" He asked, his voice deep and strangely smooth.

"Journeyman dolphineer Ednan," he replied.

The sailor made a note upon his parchment, then stated, "A sixteenth mark is the charge." He looks behind the journeyman to the trickle of people who are coming after him. A small amount, but the boarding had just started and there would be more.

Ednan handed him the payment and moved onwards to make room for more passengers. Behind him was whole family boarding.

"Come on," Leiss told the younger children, critically watching as their belongings were taken on board. If she could, and if it were proper, she would have preferred to do everything herself. Because she couldn't, she would make sure the trunks weren't so much as scuffed as they were moved.

"Hello Ednan," she said to the young man, having overheard his name. Dolphineers were respectable people. Maybe he would be interested in their eldest daughter and something positive could come of this dreadful trip. She pointedly ignored the sailor. Her husband could deal with him.

"Eight, Journeyman Barrom, wife Leis, and children Baris, Rolei, Leiba, Balei, Leirom, and Barlis." Barrom waited for the sailor to indicate the fee then paid over the marks. He glanced over at his wife and their four children who were all lined up. Rolei picked up her youngest brother and held the three-turn old while Leiss continued her surveying. Barrom joined them and put a gentle arm around his wife's shoulders. "Come on dear, let's get to our quarters. Our belongings will be just fine.

"Ma'am," Ednan replied to the woman's greeting with polite half-bow. Brun watched the children curiously. "Looking for playmates?" he asked and scratched the firelizard.

"Playmates, friends," **suitors** Leiss added to herself. "If you need any company, please come find one of us. Rolei and Leiba especially would love the company." She pointed out the eldest daughters to him. He could decide for himself which girl he preferred.

A lovely young woman, followed by burly man that was obviously her father, boarded. "Master Noan and daughter Noaciel. Do you have separate quarters for unmarried women?"

"Yes sir, we do, though she'll probably have to share with another lady." The seafarer explained as he took the Master's money and marked him and his daughter down.

Leiss subtly eyed the new arrivals, not liking Noaciel's young age and beauty. She did not want her daughters to have to compete with others for Ednan's attention.

"That won't be problem," Master Noan said and entered the deck.

"Then you're all set sir." Another sailor came up to the first and glanced at the list that had been started. He ticked over the names for a moment, then nodded and motioned for the passengers who had arrived first to follow. "I'll guide you to your quarters." He then turned and made it evident they were to follow.

Ednan followed the seacrafter and found himself standing next to Noaciel. She flashed him a smile and he automatically returned it. Leis frowned at the two ahead of her. Noaciel would have to be kept busy. Maybe she could become friends with some of her daughters. Or, her eldest son? He had a girlfriend at the Hall but Leis wasn't sure if she approved of the girl. "I hope we have more suitable accommodations then on our last trip," she told her husband as they walked.

"Our last accomodations were just fine." Barrom wished his wife weren't quite so picky. She could be a downright nuisance sometimes.

"Sir." The sailor paused before a door and motioned to Barrom and Leis then handed them a key. "This will be your room."

"Thank you." Barrom took the key and with a glance at his wife, opened the door.

The sailor stepped to the room just next to them and opened it, then handed the key to Leis. "This will be your sons' room." Then he stepped to the next one, opened it and once more gave the key to Leis. "That your daughters'
room."

The one past that was announced to be Master Noan's and the key was passed over.

"Thank you," he grunted.

The captain appeared to the deck. "Gentlemen and ladies. A moment please?" he asked. After he had everyone's attention he continued: "Welcome aboard to Sun Runner. As you know, we are already day late from our schedule. So please, let's be quick and get this ship on to the sea before we miss the tide."

The sailor saluted his captain then made sure all of the guests had their keys before hurrying off.

Leiss looked critically at the quarters. She supposed they would have to do for the journey. "I hope the winds are favorable," she muttered. The faster they went, the sooner they would be back to the comforts of the Healer Hall.
