Tavia

Tavia

U'kaiah had tried so hard to keep his eyes open a while longer, but he
was exhausted down to his core.  The healers had been worried about his
color and insisted that eat and rest.  He had managed to finish half of
a meal, but he fought sleep as long as he could.  There was so little
time that he could spend with Tavia and their new tiny miracle, and he
hated wasting it.  But as he sat stretched out on the bed, his arm
around the new mother and a hand helping to cradle their child, he
finally lost his fight as his head rolled back against the headboard and
his eyes closed.

Tavia was exhausted but exhilarated at the same time. From the way
U'kaiah had looked when he came in from the ledge he had to have been
fighting thread half the night. She was doubly glad she hadn't called
him earlier.  But she could understand why he looked so tired. "Poor
guy," she murmured watching both her boys sleep. The baby was so very
much like his father. Of course she couldn't tell much yet but he had
a mass of dark hair like the bronzrider.

}:Kalamaths wants to know if the baby is here yet.:{

Tavia's brows drew together in a puzzled frown. **What do you mean?
Kalamth and his are right here.**

}:No, the _other_ Kalamath.:{

**What _are_ you talking about?** Tavia though for a moment her green
had gone a little soft in the head. "What other Kalamath," she said
out loud.

"Huh?" Despite his exhaustion, U'kaiah could only sleep lightly, and her
words startled him awake.  "What?"

};His wants to know if you're alright:{

**I'm fine and he can see for himself, he's right here!** She shook
her head and snorted "Faranth," she said a little exasperated. "I
think Sawauth has gone a little off. She says you're asking if I'm
ok!"

"I didn't say anything," U'kaiah assured her, the sleep still evident in
his voice.  His eyes still were not open as he was still feeling an
almost nauseous feeling in is stomach.

}:It's all right, Suwath,:{ Kalamath piped in helpfully when he heard
the greens confusion.  }:I remember now.  I asked you that before when
Thread ended.  I'll be coming soon.:{

}:Did you forget you're already here? Mine says I forget sometimes:{

"I'm sorry," Tavia said to U'kaiah. "Sawauth thinks she talking to a
different Kalamath. I have no idea what she's talking about. Just go
back to sleep. You really need your rest." To tell the truth, he
didn't look well at all. But then the baby started to fuss a little
and seek so she gave him what he was looking for though she didn't
really have any milk yet.

Her words caught him off guard.  **A different Kalamath?**  How could
that be, he wondered, his eyes widening a little as he tried to think
back.

}:Don't you remember?:{ Kalamath asked, rather amused since usually it
was _he_ that couldn't recall anything.  }:After the Thread, you wanted
to know how she and the baby were, so I asked Suwath.:{

"Shards," he whispered softly.  How could he have been so stupid!

Tavia chuckled, "I don't know what's up with her but don't you worry.
I'm sure shes just mixed up. Wouldn't be the first time." She paused
for a moment. "Oh, you might like to know... you're on your way." She
shook her head and stroked The baby's face. Then she patted U'kaiah
who seemed a bit disturbed by the whole  thing. "I'm sorry," she
patted his leg. "Go back to sleep, really."

He nodded, though he definitely did squirm rather uncomfortably.  Thank
Faranth she didn't seem to suspect anything.  However, his heart was
pounding too fast in his chest for sleep.  Shards, if she knew what he
did...  "I think I need some water," he said, uncurling his arm from
around her.

She reached to the table beside her and picked up a glass. "Here you
go. Vandor made sure I had plenty." She pulled away from the baby
who'd fallen asleep again. "Do you want to hold him?"

U'kaiah downed the glass in a few long gulps, trying to regain his
composure.  "I don't know.  I'm still feeling a little shaky," he said
whipping his lip with the back of his hand as he leaned over to put the
glass on the night stand.  The water helped, but he still didn't feel
quite right.

"It's ok. You lay back down." He really didn't look very good. She
swung her legs over the side of the bed to try and stand and put the
little bundle in his cradle. It was only a couple of steps but they
weren't easy. Once she had him down in the bed she turned back and
crawled back in with U'kaiah.

"I'm as exhausted as you look." She raised a hand to the side of his
face and closed her eyes.

Even has her lids fell and his arms curled around her, the color came
rushing back into the bronzerider's cheeks.  His stomached stopped
rolling and for the first time in candlemarks, U'kaiah felt whole once
more.  "Thank Faranth," he breathed softly.  Finally, it was finished.
