Persona Profile: S'ren (Inactive)

Writer: Kastaka

Name: S'ren
Age: 44
Birthday: m7 d5
Rank: Wingrider, Hurricane Wing
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Craft: Miner
Craft Rank: Junior Journeyman
Speciality: Excavator

Physical Description of Persona:
A huge, sturdy bear of a man, S'ren is just over six feet tall and stocky with well-earned muscle, although some of it is now tending to fat. He keeps a short beard which is turning salt-and-pepper grey along with the rest of his hair, and his skin is weathered almost as tough as the riding leathers that he wears everywhere.

Emotional Description of Persona:
S'ren is a philosophical, laid-back kind of guy. He believes he's seen everything and as he's coped with it so far then there's nothing that life can throw at him now which will change that. It's practically impossible to make him angry, but he's not above using his strength to gently defuse a situation or get someone to back down before they do something they'll regret. His major vice is cradle-robbing: he loves introducing young, worried, holdbred new riders to the joys of Weyr life, and he doesn't let his age slow him down.

History of Persona:
Saren was born at Dream's End Weyrhold to one of the riders stationed there. Renara didn't want to give up her baby boy while she was stationed out at the lonely weyrhold, or move elsewhere where it was much harder to pursue her craft, so he grew up in and around the mines, looked after by a member of the kitchen staff when his mother was too busy with her dragon. He was always a well-built lad, well suited to the heavy work down the mines where the going was too small or awkward to get whers or other beasts of burden down.

Not so jealous of the young boy that she would deny him a good education, Renara sent him to the Mining Hall at Garnet Valley Hold when he was old enough to apprentice. The mild-mannered young man learnt quite swiftly and unpleasantly that his parentage and the sexual preferences he was beginning to discover were both unwelcome at his new home. Hard work without complaint, strong arms and good-natured acceptance of his low position in the social pecking order were welcome, however, and he stoically endured the prejudice and jealousy of the other apprentices.

He was a journeyman when his mother arrived at the Hall, not quietly on one of her regular visits to see how her son was getting on, but in a great hurry and panic. Apparently there was an enormous clutch of eggs at Thayan Peak, more than had been seen this whole interval. Saren had attended a couple of Hatchings when he was much younger, but after the first couple of disappointments he'd asked his mother to stop taking him. Now he was more secure in his position, however, and the look on his mother's face removed all possiblity of denying her wishes.

It was just as well he came, as Tareth was waiting for him. Through the chaos of the large weyrling class and the tragedy of the earthquake, S'ren and Tareth were a rock of stability for many of their contemporaries, calmly shouldering whatever burdens came their way without complaint. They also wasted no time making up for S'ren's exile in the Mining Hall and lack of teenaged sexual indiscretions.

A long reputation as a sturdy, reliable wingrider, who could also make anyone think twice about arguing with him just by standing there and looking at them calmly, made him a natural choice for the Weyrleader's wingthird when the position fell vacant through injury. Having now outserved several Weyrleaders, S'ren is an island of stability in the sea of change that is Dolphin Cove Weyr.

Family and Friends
Renara, 66, Searchrider (Parent)

Dragon's Name: Tareth
Dragon's Age: 24
Dragon's Hatching Date: m8 d2
Dragon's Colour: Blue
Description of Dragon:
While Tareth is still in fine health and condition, injuries both in training and in Threadfall have left him obviously scarred in multiple places, especially a burn scar down the left side of his neck and evidence of serious repairs to both wings. His deep, sapphire blue hide is showing no signs of age, however, and he regularly displays his continued agility and stamina chasing every green that rises.

Tareth is somewhat more prone to emotional displays and short-lived agitation than his rider, which serves his rider well to keep the confident man from dangerous complacency. He's not necessarily the most observant or agile blue in the pack, but he has a surprising reserve of stamina for a small dragon and a good turn of speed when it's needed, combined with well-honed reflexes and the distilled wisdom of many hard-learnt lessons.
